New Mexico Feathergrass
Description
New Mexico Feathergrass is a cool season tufted bunch grass native to the mid and southwest. It is a perennial species with blades 4-12 inches long. As a species very similar to "Needle and Thread Grass," its main difference is that the floret has a long awn that is covered in hairs. This grass is often found on rocky slopes, sandy, gravelly, or rocky sites.
While this grass can provide moderate forage for livestock when its seed heads are absent, its pointed seeds can injure animals' mouths. It does cure well to provide fall and winter forage for livestock.
