Canadian Wildrye
Description
Canada Wildrye is a cool-season perennial that is quick to establish and provide cover to soil. It is a versatile grass that grows arching stems that reach up to four feet high and produce spike-shaped seed heads with long, bristly awns.
This grass is very palatable to livestock and wildlife and provides grazing in the early spring for cattle. Canada Wildrye can also be planted as an ornamental bunchgrass for partly shady prairie plantings. Planting should take place in the fall.
